Size a brush texture for the illustration’s final view

A texture that looks lively in a large brush preview can turn into distracting spots in a small illustration. Krita’s texture settings separate the chosen pattern from its scale and offsets. Use a small drawing of your own to judge the relationship between grain, shape and final size. Texture should support the material or drawing language rather than demand attention independently.

Give the texture a specific job

Choose one area, such as a broad paper-like fill behind an original object. Decide whether the grain should read as a material cue or remain a quiet variation. Place an untextured version beside it. If the object becomes harder to recognise before any setting changes, simplify the use of texture first. A large number of available patterns is not a reason to apply them across every part of the image.

Compare scale without changing the whole brush

Duplicate the preset and compare a few texture scales while keeping the brush tip and colour comparable. Inspect broad areas as well as narrow passages. A scale that gives attractive open grain in a large patch may leave only one large hole in a thin edge. If offsets vary between strokes, inspect more than one mark so the decision is not based on an unusually convenient pattern placement.

Check the reduced image and one revision

View the illustration at its intended presentation size, then try a small colour correction on the working copy. Check whether grain remains a useful variation or becomes a pattern of distracting dots. Inspect the boundary where textured paint meets a clean line. Keep the chosen scale with a small finished-size sample. That sample explains the intended visual relationship better than a brush-editor screenshot without the drawing it is meant to serve.
