Retime a translated title by its phrase units

Replacing the words in a title animation can change the number of characters and the way meaning arrives. After Effects documents selectors based on characters, words or lines. Use that distinction when adapting an original bilingual title. Translation should carry the same intended message, while the timing may need a different structure to let each version read naturally.

Read the phrase before applying the animation

Prepare a natural title in each language and mark the meaningful units. Decide whether it makes sense for a unit to appear together. Do not make the translation imitate the original character count. A short English phrase and a concise Chinese title may divide their meaning differently even when both are accurate. Keep a still layout for each version so you can distinguish a timing problem from a static typesetting problem.

Compare complete units with mechanical character timing

Try a version revealing meaningful groups and compare it with the inherited character-by-character timing. Inspect partial states as well as the completed title. Ask whether an early fragment briefly gives the wrong emphasis or an unintended reading. Adjust the selection and timing to the actual phrase. Do not assume a word-based setting treats every writing system in the way your editorial judgement needs; inspect the visible result.

Give each version its own reading review

Play both versions at the intended size with the surrounding video. Allow their timings to differ when that preserves a comparable reading opportunity. Check final hold and exit after any phrase revision. Ask competent readers of each language when available, and keep the version-specific timing decision in the working file. A coherent motion family can share pace and visual behaviour without forcing every language to use identical character intervals.
