Keep the story clue when an illustration changes shape

A wide illustration may need a narrow preview for a reading list or a phone page. Centring the crop on the face is convenient, but the hand or letter that explains the expression can disappear. Decide which information must survive before preparing another format of the image.

Write the sentence the image must support

For a fictional scene, use a concrete sentence: a traveller reads an unexpected letter beside an open case. Identify the traveller, letter and open case in the full image. Decide which items are essential for the intended preview, and which can be explained on the destination page. Avoid inventing a safe area percentage without knowing the actual layout. Save the original composition and create the alternate presentation as a separate working version.

Compare framing before repainting

Try a few crop positions within the real target proportions. Krita’s crop tool documents position, size and aspect constraints; confirm whether the operation affects the intended image or layer. Compare the candidates at their display size, keeping any proposed title overlay visible. Check whether the letter remains distinguishable from a bright patch and whether the case still reads as open. A crop that retains all three objects can still bury the action if each becomes too small.

Choose a crop or request another composition

If no crop supports the sentence, label the format as needing a new arrangement rather than stretching the image. Record which element must move or be redrawn, and send that request with the original and target dimensions. Recheck the approved alternate after text is added. Keep links between the versions so a later update to the source illustration also prompts a review of its previews and does not leave an outdated scene detail in circulation.
