Keep essential illustration details inside the print safe area

A full-bleed illustration and a title placed near its edge have different needs. MOO’s flyer guidelines distinguish bleed, trim and safe areas, with the background extending outward and important content kept inside. Use the actual selected printer’s current template rather than treating one supplier’s dimensions as universal. The design still needs a composition review after those boundaries are understood.

Identify what must survive trimming

Use an original illustrated flyer with a title and one small meaningful detail. Mark which elements must remain complete, such as a character’s expression or a date. Then distinguish those from background colour that can extend beyond the finished edge. Do not place an important feature exactly on a trim boundary simply because it aligns neatly in the editor. The visible sheet is the result to design for, not the entire working canvas.

Apply the correct template without stretching the art

Confirm the chosen format and use its current supplied guides. Reposition or deliberately recompose the illustration when its proportions differ. Avoid stretching faces or a round emblem merely to fill the bleed box. Extend a suitable background area instead, or choose a composition that fits the format. Keep template guides separate from the artwork and follow the supplier’s current delivery instructions rather than assuming the guides should print.

Review the intended trimmed view

Inspect the design with the finished edge visible and the outside area hidden. Check whether the title feels cramped, whether a near-edge detail appears accidentally cut and whether the focal point still has space. Inspect the actual export against the required specifications before sending it. A screen review can identify layout problems, but it does not establish a physical print result; obtain the appropriate proof for the production decision.
